Successful wine pairing in 30 seconds

Wine is a great drink for the fact that the perception of it’s taste changes with the food it is consumed with. At the same time wine can either enhance the characteristics of food, or sometimes successfully contrast the food being eaten.

When choosing wine, some simple steps can make life easier when entering a restaurant or wine shop:

-          Local rule: match the wine of the region with local food

-          Look for attributes of the food and wine: the wine can have a structure or taste that would enhance the food taste or it can contrast with the food

-          Try to match with the occasion: the taste of wine is often enhanced if drunk in good company

-          Ultimately, pairing wine with food should achieve a balance: Therefore keeping to the simple basic tastes: salt, sour, sweet or bitter tastes
